The circularity of wool
On average, a sheep produces between 3 and 5 kilograms of raw wool each year, a quantity that can increase in breeds selected for high yield, such as the Merino. Shearing is not only the moment when the fiber is collected but also a fundamental practice for the animal's welfare: wool grows continuously, and if not removed, it can cause overheating, difficulty in movement, and skin problems. Annual shearing is therefore an integral part of responsible farm management, in addition to representing the beginning of the journey that transforms natural fiber into yarn.
Wool is a completely natural and biodegradable fiber. Since it is composed mainly of keratin, the same protein found in human hair, at the end of its life cycle it naturally decomposes in the soil, without releasing microplastics or persistent substances into the environment. Under suitable conditions, wool can biodegrade in a few years, returning nutrients such as nitrogen and sulfur to the soil. It is a renewable raw material that grows on the animal every year and, once discarded, returns to the earth, completing a virtuous cycle. This characteristic clearly distinguishes it from synthetic fibers and strengthens its value in a contemporary context increasingly attentive to environmental impact.
Sustainability and care
Approximately 1.1 million tonnes of wool are produced annually, representing about 1% of global textile fibre production. Despite the limited quantity in terms of volume, wool remains a benchmark raw material in the luxury segment. Precisely for this reason, it is crucial to properly care for wool garments: adequate maintenance extends their lifespan, helping to reduce waste and making them truly sustainable over time.
How to care for your garments
Ventilate after use
Allow the garment to rest in a well-ventilated area to allow the fibers to relax naturally.
Store properly
Use appropriate hangers to maintain the garment's shape and structure.
Gentle cleansing
Remove any light stains with natural fiber brushes.
Controlled washes
Limit dry cleaning to only when necessary.
Avoid direct heat
Do not use direct steam or aggressive ironing to preserve the fabric surface.
In our historic wool mills, we have elevated the processing of this fiber to a true art form, refining spinning and weaving techniques generation after generation. This total control of the supply chain allows us to guarantee absolute excellence: a promise of quality that can be felt firsthand in every one of our creations, from yarn to finished garment.
