THE GOBI DESERT TREASURE

Alashan cashmere

Alashan cashmere is born in the heart of the Gobi Desert, where extreme temperatures give rise to extraordinarily fine fibers. Rare and exceptionally soft, this precious cashmere is crafted to create unique and timeless garments.

Discover cashmere

A balance between quality, rarity, and environmental awareness.

Exceptional refinement

Exceptionally fine fibers, up to 42 mm long, which produce uniform, lightweight, and pill-resistant yarns.

A delicate collection

Cashmere is not shorn, but harvested through delicate hand-combing during the natural spring molting period.

A rare fiber

Each goat produces only 150–200 grams of usable sottovello per year. A limited quantity that underscores its rarity and value.

A tradition of research and discovery

A tradition of research and discovery

In 1908, Mario Piacenza, mountaineer, pioneer and explorer, set out from Biella towards still unexplored mountain lands, beginning a story of discovery. That same spirit of exploration lives on today in the way we select the finest fibres, through journeys to their regions of origin and meetings with trusted local partners.

Behind every metre of our cashmere are families, traditions and an ancient bond between man and nature. Through the responsible selection of fibres, the protection of the Albas breed and support for local pastoral communities, we help preserve this heritage for future generations.

From this encounter comes to life Shambala – The Last Kingdom of Cashmere, a special selection of the finest duvets, a tribute to exploration and artisanal mastery

The qualities of cashmere

  • Central Asian cashmere generally has a fiber diameter between 17.0 and 19.0 µm. The fiber length varies between 28 and 34 mm, offering a good balance between softness and strength;

  • Mongolian cashmere has finer fibers, with a diameter generally between 16.0 and 17.0 µm. The fiber length varies between 36 and 42 mm, contributing to its softness and durability over time;

  • Alashan and Tibetan cashmere are distinguished by exceptionally fine fibers, with diameters between 15.0 and 15.8 µm and lengths between 37 and 42 mm. These characteristics place them among the finest and most prestigious cashmere fibers in the world.
